SYLLABUS
Course Overview: American Civilizations I begins the survey of American History from discovery to America's emergence as a world power. The development of America and its interrelationship with other countries are studied through historical analysis and a contemporary perspective. Students will gain better insight into compelling social, cultural, economic, political, and military problems leading to the 20th century. In addition to daily classwork, students will write essays, prepare oral reports, take a midterm and final examinations. Units of Study: U.S. History Overview Sectionalism Sectional Strife Reconstruction Westward Movement Textbook: Person's America: Pathways to the Present Supplies: -FULLY CHARGED computer and charger -spiral notebook -folder -black or blue pens -red pens -highlighters *if you cannot get any of these supplies please email us or speak to us privately!!! :) Grading: Grading is based on a point system. Tests, quizzes, projects, essays, classwork and homework are all assigned point values. These can be adjusted at the discretion of the teachers at any time. Exams 50% (two exams per marking period - essay questions included on each exam) Homework 5% (most assignments are located in the text) Quizzes 10% (text will be assigned for weekly quizzes) classwork 15% Project 10% (one major project each marking period) Participation 10% Classroom Rules: -Always be respectful of yourself and others -Follow directions/ instructions -Bring all materials to class -Be seated and ready to begin class when the second bell rings -Eating during class will be at the discretion of the teacher -Maintain academic integrity Cell Phone Policy: Cell phones are to be out ONLY with the teacher's permission and only to be used for an academic purpose. Tardy/ Absent: Students will be marked accordingly on PowerSchool. Please see the handbook for school regulations regarding tardiness and absence.
